| My horses are started slowly, and worked with pretty much daily year round. Despite what people think about young horses, my colts have proven year after year to be dependable mounts. The majority have been sold to youths wanting to compete in 4H and other shows. But that is not all they are used for, they are also great companions and reliable mounts out on the trail. My broke colts will be Quiet, trusting, lead without tack, stand quietly to be saddled and mounted, Leave the barn and return at the same speed. Sidepass, back through patterns, lope quietly, quick stops with little rein pressure. Great show prospects or dependable mounts on the trail. And many past buyers have said they are very cowy--I wouldn't know since I don't have cows. | ||

MaresI have culled and sold some really nice mares over the years. I only keep the ones that "I" liked to train or who throw foals that I have had very good luck with. I ride my colts and I am fussy about what I like to ride . |

Here are some Penned Truths from popular magazines. Things that I think every horse owner should ponder. |
||
| “A horse’s submissiveness to humans is only minimally transferable. We must demonstrate to each horse we handle that we understand his world and are qualified to be the leader of the team.” May 2005 issue of Horse and Rider magazine page 24 by Rick Lamb | ||
| "One of the best ways to de-spook a horse is to first de-spook yourself. Horses are very good at picking up your vibes." by benspottedbefore at Horseandrider.com | ||
“Horses are just like people; there are smart ones, dumb ones, miserable ones, honest ones, simple ones, cheats, freaks, leaders, and laggards. They have good days, bad days, and plenty of average days. They can be brilliant one minute, horrible the next. They can remember something that happened a year ago and forget what they learned yesterday.” |
||
“I guess horses have a way of reminding us that –despite all of the training and handling—they are, after all, still horses.” ………“Rodney started bucking and you would have thought he was headed for the national Finals Rodeo rather than the World Quarter Horse Show. “ February 2001 Western Horseman issue page 8 by Randy Witte |

| Brent Graef--Americas Horse July 2008 To be a leader of a horse: *Listen to horse--read your horse to find right exercise, amount, time. *Give horse support and confidence. *Set horse up for success. *See things from the horses perspective *ALLOWS horse to think for himself *Is Clear, Fair, and consistent *Shows horse love, respect, and appreciation *Knows you can't appoint a leader--you have to EARN it. And Understands that a horse May or May Not bestow that upon you. |

| I get as much satisfaction from producing a young horse . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .At the start of a young horse's career, there are not expectations, so I feel that everything that goes right is a bonus. exerpt from the July 2009 Horse and rider by Olympic Medalist Pippa Funnell |

Estimate your horses weight---- girth(squared)X body Length divided by 330 = estimated weight in pounds Forecasting height--- Cloth measuring tape or string, measure from the middle of the knee in a straight line to where the hairline meets the coronet band. Convert inches to hands. 15 ¼ inches = 15.1 hands. Horse must be at least 6 months old. |
